Congratulations to Professor Hovakimyan and Venanzio Cichella for their awards

ACRL PhD student Venanzio Cichella has won the Ross J. Martin Award for outstanding research achievement.

The award recognizes a graduate student in the College of Engineering whose work meets the ideals of Ross Martin, a faculty member of the college for 40 years, 26 of which he served as associate dean and director of the Engineering Experiment Station. The award is a tribute to his guidance and to the outstanding research conducted in the college. Cichella’s award includes a cash prize and he will receive a plaque at the annual College Faculty Awards Ceremony on April 27.

This is the first time the award was given to a student from the Mechanical Engineering department in the history of UIUC. All thanks to Cichella’s brilliant work on cooperative control of multiple unmanned aerial and ground vehicles!

In the same ceremony Professor Hovakimyan was recognized as one of eight MechSE’s outstanding faculty members honored with the Engineering Council Award for Excellence in Advising.

Engineering Council is a union of engineering students and committees that offers programs and services to enrich the student experience. Recipients of the Excellence in Advising Award are nominated by their students and represent the top 10 percent of engineering advisors across the college.

Honorees were presented with their award at the College of Engineering Faculty Awards Ceremony held on April 27th.
